There now follows 2 ways of doing hideous, and realistic burn effects... 1) Make sure you have the following items to hand. Vaseline, NewSkin (or equivalent paint on type gunk), black, red & yellow water based make ups. First, select a burn area, and cover it with yellow makeup. Next, apply a fairly thick coating of vaseline (about 2mm), and cover the makeup totally. Now, using a finger, spike up the vaseline by tapping it. When you have achieved the 'messy' effect that you are after, paint NewSkin over the entire area. As it dries, it will crease and crack. Now, using a foam applicator, cover the whole mess with a coating of red, and finally add black over the top of that, and around the edges of the area to blend it into the skin. Result? A burn that looks foul, and also cracks and *pusses* when you touch it, or move it too fast (if it's over a joint, or other bendy area of skin....) [Over to Jay for version 2...] 2) OK. This is your "vampiric" burn effect - a la Near Dark. Needs: Spirit gum, cotton wool (roll or balls), black make-up (water based) and optionally, liquid latex. Paint the area you want burnt (for instance back of hand and lower-arm) with spirit gum. Don't saturate with it, you just need enough so that the cotton wool will adhere. Next very liberally stick on cotton wool. Wait for a bit, then pull it away in tufts. Most of it will pull off, but will leave some behind. You can then paint this with a thin layer or two of liquid latex (it will make creases and bulges in the cotton wool) like old stretched, burnt skin (and ruin your brush in the process - beware) wait for the latex to dry (use a hair-dryer to speed this up). Apply black make-up. If you don't want to, or can't get hold of liquid latex, apply the make-up directly to the pulled cotton-wool. It will give a similar effect. Copydex makes a good alternative to latex here. !!!!BEWARE - if you have hairy arms, shave them first! Pulling the gunk off will HURT LIKE A BASTARD otherwise!!! [Dan again...] Hope this helps guys. You mix it about 1:1 with very hot (but not boiling) water and then stir it until it's completely dissolved. Then wait until it cools and apply it directly to the skin (shave or soap and hair that might get in the way!). It's not quite as pliable as latex, but can applied directly to your skin and is dirt-cheap to use. The results can be pealed and saved (in the refridgerator), but they don't keep all that well. If you need to re-use, try latex instead - but for one-shot nasty looking burns, gelatin can't be beat (well, Neo says his "pour gasoline on your face and light it" method is better, but I'm not so sure...) One last trick - it will keep a little longer and stay a bit more pliable if you add a couple drops of glycerine, but it's not necessary. Eirik *** Hamstur lives!
